Joel S. Todd (Jay) of Counsel

Jay is an attorney in Chester County, Pennsylvania, in the western suburbs of Philadelphia with over 26 years of legal experience.

After graduating from law school in 1991, he clerked for a trial judge for one year in York County, Pennsylvania.  During that time, he also taught a legal research and writing class at a paralegal school in York. He began the private practice of law in 1992.  He has extensive experience in the following practice areas: real estate, business law, creditors’ rights, foreclosure, judgment collection, wills & trusts, estate administration, and civil litigation.

Through the years, he has represented numerous banks and other financial institutions, small and medium-sized businesses, entrepreneurs, landlords & tenants, contractors, real estate investors & developers, and professionals such as lawyers, doctors, architects, and engineers.  Since the practice of law is first and foremost a business, he is always focused on finding practical, cost-effective solutions for clients.

Consistent with our rapid global transformation to a digital economy, he is seeing more technology-related legal issues arise every day, especially in the area of data privacy/protection and cybersecurity law.  Several states have data privacy laws, and Congress is in the process of considering national data privacy legislation.   More and more businesses are realizing that they can no longer afford to ignore data privacy compliance issues, so they are turning to their attorneys for guidance.  In order to better serve clients with this pressing need, he is in the process of pursuing the Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) certification, which is offered by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

Jay lives in West Chester, Pennsylvania with his wife and best friend, Lihong.  He has two children, a stepson named Patrick and a cat named Garfield.  Since he has lived in the Philadelphia region since early childhood, the Phillies and Eagles are in his DNA.  He also likes to ski and travel with his wife.
